Slow down and spend some time getting to know the outdoor environment of Southwest Florida with a visit to Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve. The 365-acre preserve is the second-largest preserved green space in Cape Coral. The park is open daily, year-round, 8 a.m. -dusk. The park is located at the east end of SE 23 Terrace. Enter 2220 SE 21stAvenue, Cape Coral, FL 33990 to get there by GPS. The park office can be reached at 239-549-4606 and the kayak shack is 239-574-7395 from November-May.
Kayaking
The waters of Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve are accessible all year long. If you have your own vessel, there are several launch points where you can begin your paddling journey. There is an 800’ portage along the kayak trail, which is not suitable for beginners. Children under six are not permitted in the rental kayaks available from the seasonal kayak shack. Rentals are available November-May (Closed June-October) from 8 a.m. -4 p.m. There are no rentals available after 2 p.m., and all vessels should be returned by 4 p.m.
Boardwalk
There is a 6,600’ nature trail and boardwalk that winds its way through the preserve. Keep your eyes open for possible wildlife sightings of eagles, ibis, herons, raccoons, snakes, and more. High-impact activities like skateboarding, jogging, biking, rollerblading, and equestrian activities are not permitted. Scout out the two observation piers for a better view.
Visitor Center
Learn more about the preserve and its ecological mission of keeping the environment and wildlife of Southwest Florida safe. There are also restrooms available.
